The Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM) is a professional society and certification body that promotes ethical practices and advances education and skills in Materials Science, Technology, and Engineering. With over 8,000 members, including professionals from various sectors, IMM focuses on training, certification, and research development. IMM was founded in 1987 as the Malaysia Materials Science & Technology Society (MMS) and renamed in 1997. It is administered by a council of experts and volunteers, overseeing specialized committees and regional chapters. A key objective of IMM is to train and develop individuals in Malaysia, enabling them to achieve certification and professional recognition in Materials Science, Technology, and Engineering. IMM also fosters research and development in these fields while promoting collaboration between industrial sectors, research institutes, and universities.

IMM’s certification programs are widely recognized in industries such as oil and gas, shipbuilding, construction, and transportation. These programs have trained and certified professionals, including blasters, painters, coating inspectors, welding engineers, corrosion technicians, and more.
